Hundertwasser and the Application of Line

The intermediate art students at South Graham Elementary have been exploring ways to apply their knowledge of the elements of art so as to make exciting abstract collagés. In this body of artwork the students focused on the elements of line and color. We looked at paintings by Friedensreich Hundertwasser for inspiration. Our goals were to bring more variety of line and contrast of color to our work. Our students not only applied these elements as per our discussion but also applied an abundance of enthusiasm and creativity of their own!

The youngest South Graham Pandas have been learning about geometric shapes and how to identify them in works of art, like Picasso's "Musicians" and Paul Klee's "Red Bridge". They have been coming up with all kinds of ways to make just about anything out of geometric shapes. Their imaginations are much better than mine. I showed them how I make geometric people and animals and they not only showed me many more ways to do that but also how to make rocket ships, robots, boats, and even vacuum cleaners! Here are just a few of their enchanting works of art.
